For my final week of Media I must do a review of my DVD.

1. Are you happy with your design? Why? Why Not?

I am happy with my design, I learnt a lot through the creation of this DVD, The DVD it'self looks great, and i don't feel like I could do a better job, (Unless I had time)

2. How well does it fulfil the design requirements?

I feel as though I have met all the requirements for a DVD cover that has to do with a Horror movie, I'm slightly disappointed however at the fact that I can't bring this character into the world of ledgend

3. Ask a fellow student to give you feed back on your design solution.

I asked a friend Tahnaya Fenwick (The girl on the DVD) what she thought and she seemed to cringe at the sight of it, which is relatively the reaction I want. the idea is that it is a chilling sight.

4. If you were to redesign your solution what would you change?

If I had to redesign anything that I've been assigned I'd redesign the mood board because i feel like it could have helped to have a mood board that fit the theme of my DVD. However I would not change anything on the DVD Itself.

A new design for the Australian Flag

I have been assigned to select a new Australian flag from a list of flags. (http://www.flagsaustralia.com.au/newflag.html)

I chose this flag as it's rather symbolic of a fairly large amount of Australian unique qualities.
Firstly, much like the Australian flag it has the southern and as I mentioned in my previous post, it is symbolic of Australia, mystery and Aboriginal heritage.

However with the addition of the wattle, it has a whole new aspect to think about, The wattle is branch is also symbolic of Australia as it's Australian-only flora and it has the Australian colours, as does the entire flag, Green and Gold.

The Australian Flag.

I have been tasked to redesign the Australian Flag for a 2012 audience, however I have decided as the Australian flag is huge part of Australian heritage and largely signifies a paramount part of Australian history I'm not going to change it.

The first question I was asked was what is wrong with it and how could it.
I thought, why change it? The union jack is a huge symbol of Australia's past, It represents our English background (how originally we came from England).
the Southern Cross is symbolic in many ways.

  • It's a star sign that can only be seen from the southern hemisphere.
  • It represents mystery as it is in space, and essentially, that's what Australia is, A land of mystery.
  • It also has to do with Aboriginal heritage.
So as you can see the Australian flag is perfect just the way it is, and there are many more features that I haven't mentioned.

Secondly I was asked what are some possible constraints? How would it effect an Australian audience?

I concluded that some people as always wouldn't care, however a large majority or Australian citizens would be in uproar about it as the Australian flag looks great and it has meaning. Why change something as majestic  as our own flag?

A Title: The title needs to be catchy and reflect the movies tone, characters and story line.
- Lurk
- Lurker
- The Lurker

Main character/s description:  A Name and description of the characters look, age, sex, clothing, skills and maybe even a catch phrase.

The story doesn't have a main character, the only character who stays throughout the entire movie is the Lurker herself, she has no name.

Synopsis: (what the movie is about).
Have you ever wondered what happens when you’re not looking?

Have you ever seen something out of the corner of your eye and when you looked, it wasn’t there?

The Lurker is a story of a young girl, out of her time, beaten by her father and tortured by her mother. Her upbringing was harder than most, her sheer will to survive turned her into an unforgiving, unlovable and heartless monster. She committed suicide at the age of 16 but her soul was unfulfilled, she was not ready to move on.

Searching desperately for someone to love her she stalks her pray like a leopard, waiting, watching, but unable to touch, talk or express her feelings.

Her presence is unsettling and those who are exposed to her presence for too long are driven to insanity, suicide or rage.

Her long lasting impatience for love and realisation of her power turned her into tormenter, a villain of unmatched power.

You can’t destroy what you can’t see, but it can destroy you.

This is on the back of the DVD cover, I can't talk to much about it, the horror is in watching the movie not reading about it.

Photos:  A description of the photos you will take for your DVD cover.

The Photos are designed to be scary, sinister or dark and create a dark feeling. I've gone with very dark neutral colours to represent my aspects of a horror film.

Mood Board

I made a mood board today, I was set the task to make an action based mood board and i chose to do a sci-fi theme. I'm fairly happy with the results.

I chose to do a green and blue theme as they are both colour's that are symbolic of mystery. They also suit the theme of sci-fi as they are directly associated with each other.

The reason for my choice of text is because its similar to the stereotypical sci-fi theme but its not the exact thing. You see because its similar and not the exact thing it still holds it's mystery value. If i stuck with the stereotype then the mystery aspect would be confusing or seem less legitimate.
