The Australian Flag.

I have been tasked to redesign the Australian Flag for a 2012 audience, however I have decided as the Australian flag is huge part of Australian heritage and largely signifies a paramount part of Australian history I'm not going to change it.

The first question I was asked was what is wrong with it and how could it.
I thought, why change it? The union jack is a huge symbol of Australia's past, It represents our English background (how originally we came from England).
the Southern Cross is symbolic in many ways.

  • It's a star sign that can only be seen from the southern hemisphere.
  • It represents mystery as it is in space, and essentially, that's what Australia is, A land of mystery.
  • It also has to do with Aboriginal heritage.
So as you can see the Australian flag is perfect just the way it is, and there are many more features that I haven't mentioned.

Secondly I was asked what are some possible constraints? How would it effect an Australian audience?

I concluded that some people as always wouldn't care, however a large majority or Australian citizens would be in uproar about it as the Australian flag looks great and it has meaning. Why change something as majestic  as our own flag?
